The Competence of Primary School English (Part II)
Hello
everyone, it’s me again the owner of this blog. After such a hectic week and
the general election has been done, I finally manage to do a comeback in this
blog to post the next part of the journal that I’ve read. In this part I will
try to explain about the theoretical review of this journal.
In
this part, the author is share their foundings about English teacher for young
learners in Sulawesi region. This survey is conducted in several areas in Sulawesi,
there are, Makassar, Bantaeng, Bulukumba, Wajo, Bone, Sidra, Soppeng, Pangkep,
Parepare, Enrekang. This pre-survey is occurred in November 2011.
The
result that the authours found was really shocking, and considered as a serious
problems. The result that considered as a serious problems are, 1) The 51%
teachers of 1415 English teachers of elementary schools in 10 regencies have
never attended English Teacher Training College, 2) There are only 21% teachers
that have already attended the English training, 3) 68% teachers have English
teaching experiences less than 5 years. The data could be seen in Table.
Thus,
based on the table and explanation about, it can be concluded that, there are
724 teachers have never attended to English Teacher Training College and also
have never been to English Teacher Training College. Thus, this indicates that
most of them do not have knowledge and skill in teaching English to young
learners. Teachers are not have an ability to create a suitable learning
method, or strategies.
However,
Vale and Feuntun (1995:6) states that one of the most cliché things that
teachers often do is, teacher with English as a Foreign Language, but have no
experience in working with children. Vale and Feuntun insisted to give a
training for the teacher who have no experience in teaching English for young
learner.

That’s
it for today. Hope you guys enjoy my writing and can understand it more.
