(Introduction) The Competence of Primary School English Teachers in Indonesia
Hello fellas thank you for visiting my blog again. Fyuh,
it’s already April it’s mean that we’re getting closer to Final Examination.
So today, I’m back with a new task, but this task
will not be different with the previous task which I’ve uploaded last time.
In today’s task I will share about the journal that
I’ve read “The Competence of Primary School English Teachers in Indonesia” this
journal talk about the same topic with “Teaching English to Young Learners in
Indonesia: Essential Requirements”.
This journal is consisting of several parts, there
are:
1. Introduction
2. The
Qualification of Primary School English Teachers
3. Competence
4. Research
Method
5. Pedagogic
Competence
6. Conclusion
And now I will dissect the first part of the journal
that is, introduction.
As a language English is already implemented in
Indonesian school since 1992. At first the implementation of English is not an
obligatory but, compulsory. Thus, it is a local content subject which the result
of decentralization of Education in Indonesia . It is promoted by the policy of
Ministry of Education and Culture Number 0487/4/1992, Chapter VIII, which states
that schools are able to add the basic subject in th curriculum, as long as the
lesson is not contrary to the national education goals. As a result of this policy,
many city governments are interested in teaching English to Young Learners
(EYL), and there are a lot of schools that offer English classes at the elementary
school level.
The increasing offer of English classes makes the request
of English teachers also increasing rapidly. Thus, it become a necessity to prepare
for a competent and qualified teachers. There should be a training for teachers
of English at elementary shools. The person who qualified to be a teacher
should attend teachers’ college or already completed their university studies.
As a teachers of English to Young Learners, they need
to improve their competences. The competences are, communicative competence in
the foreign language, linguistic competence, linguistic-cultural competence and
didactic/pedagogical competence (Pogosian 2008:53).
That is for the Introduction part, I will back next week for the next part of the journal.
