I do like my first name, but not my last name. Here's a reason why.
I spent almost my entire childhood days at a small village in Bogor. I was a girl who really enjoys to play in a rice paddy, play soccer in a field, and badminton after school. I think that's why I'm the only family member in my family who has a tan skin.
During my elementary school days, everyone in my class likes to tease me by calling me 'Giring Nidji' or 'Brekele hair' because I had a frizzy-waved hair. And I really hate being called with that 'nickname' and that's more sound like an insult than a nickname.
After I got into college, my lecture gives the class a question. "Do people like their first name?" And this entire post I dedicate it for Reading Class' assignment.
My name is Fanny Wibowo. Since kindergarten I knew that Fanny is an english word that means 'lucu' in Indonesian language. And I thought that's pretty cool name, a cheerful person, a full of laugh person, and the other words that would interpret 'funny'. But, I also found out that 'fanny' does not only mean 'lucu'
It's really annoy me to found out that its mean 'bum' in English-America or 'bottom'
But, thanks god until today no one ever found out that it mean 'bum' or 'bottom'. So, I don't have to be afraid if someone would insult my first name. But everyone would found out after I posted this.
And until today I'm still really like my name. A man that I really loved until today too, he really likes my name, and that must be the main reason why I still like my name until today.
While, my love to my 1st name is unconditional I begun to hate my last name at middle school. It was during my first day in new student orientation. My senior who is a boy who I had a crush on made a joke about my last name, instead of called me 'Fanny Wibowo', he called me, 'Fauzi Bowo'. Okay, it doesn't sound like an insult whatsoever, but as an adolescent it was a BIG deal.Especially it is someone who you had a crush on who said it. And since that day all of my friends in middle school being so creative to made fun about my last name until I graduated. So Instead call me by my 1st name, they call me with my last name 'bowo' that more likely to be a boy's name than a girl's name.
Actually, my last name is a name inhereted from my father. So, I should be proud of it. But unfortunately the incident at middle school had make my self-esteem about my last name gone.
But, is not a big deal anymore after I reach adulthood. Yes I am going to be 21 years old next month. If someone make fun about my last name, I'll not take it serious.
Because it is an assignments, my lecture gave me another questions, it is "If I had a son and daughter. What English name I will give to them?"
Since I grew up by watching a lot of Harry Potter's movie, every characters from its movie left a lot of impression to me. Especially, Luna Lovegood. I will choose Luna for my 1st daughter's name. The name of 'Luna' for me representing a beauty and a kindness. And for your information, Luna's character in the movie is a cool girl and has a broad knowledge. And for the 2nd daughter, I will give 'Eleanor' as her name. Eleanor sounds really sophisticated yet ancient. Which I really like the mix of those two like a name of a royal family member. And for the last daughter, I will give 'Hayley' for my 3rd daughter. Actually, Hayley is one of the best woman singer from a band called Paramore that I really adore until today. Hayley name, representing a woman who has a cheerful personality.
And for the boys. I Will give my 1st son, David, Ethan, and Demas. I don't have any particular reasons for the boys name. Because I prefer to have a daughter than a son. So I don't really prepare it.
And for the last question. "If I can change my 1st name. What would it be?"
When I was 7 years old, My Friend's name is 'Nadia', 'Nabila' 'Lisa', 'Putri'. Yes for the kids who spent their childhood in 2000's era that names is really famous. Just like a name of a characters from a soap opera I used to watched a lot.
But, as a 21 years old Fanny Wibowo who had been going through a lot of failures, heartbreak, and emotional breakdown. I will choose a name that suit my personality right now. A name that representing 'maturity'. So I will choose 'Zara'. Like a clothing line brand's name but I feel something different whenever I heard 'Zara'. Sounds sophisticated, has a dark aura, and representing maturity.
And I wish I could change my last name too. And I will change it into, Adeena. So it will be, Zara Adeena.
