Eat, Pray, Love PT.3
Chapter 37
Eliz is make a parable about her visit to India with
a hen and rooster that her Dad used to kept when She was child. Elizabeth says
that, a newcomer of chicken should be slip in the middle of the night to its
place while the others are already asleep to prevent chaos. So when the
chickens wake up, they don’t notice the newcomer, thinking only, “She must have
been here all the time since I didn’t see her arrive.” And that’s how She
arrive in India.
After She arrive in India She went on Ashram at 3:30
AM. In there She saw a lot of people are gather to do morning prayer. She went
inside, kneeled and touch her forehead to the temple step and then ease herself
inside, and joining the small gathering and singing a hymn called, “The Amazing
Grace of Sanskrit”. Eliz is already know this song, she even already memorized
it.
Chapter 38
Eliz is interested in Yoga. Back in New York she
take a Yoga class. In this chapter Eliz write a really long paragraph about
Yogar and why she really interested in
it. This chapter is also conveyed the reason why Eliz want to visit India.
Chapter 39
In Ashram, Eliz share a room with a lot of people
races. From asian, and Caucasian. The ashram is located far far far away from
the downtown area of Mumbai. In fact, the ashram is located on a dirt road in a
rural river valley near a pretty and scrappy litte village. Ashram is stands as
the town’s pride though Ashram is all about poverty and dust.
There are some long-term paid staffers at the
Ashram, but most of the work here is done by the students themselves. Some of
the local villagers also work here on salary.
Chapter 40
Eliz is celebrating a new year in Ashram. So
different from the new years she used to celebrate in New York. People in
Ashram are celebrating new years by sit on the ground and chanting, and
singing. They are singing in sanskirt. Eliz is so tired but she kept on
chanting and singing.
Celebating new year in Ashram is the moment when she
doesn’t even known any people she was celebrating with. There is no body she
knows and she could embrace at midnight. This night was lonely for Eliz.
Chapter 41
In Ashram everyone is received their own work. Eliz
is in charge to scrub the temple floors. Her fellow floor-scrubber are mainly
an Indian teenagers. This job is given to teenagers, because their physical
energy is required in this job.
Nobody’s is allowed to talks in the temples, but not
with a bunch of those teenagers. They are chattering going on all the time as
they’re working.
Chapter 42

meditation session at 4:00 AM. Eliz is supposed to sit for an hour in silence.
When She’s going to meditate, she facing some
problems that often occurred when She’s about to start for meditating. Yes, She
can not control her imagination during the meditation. She repeat the mantra
over and over again, Om Namah Shivaya..
Om namah Shivaya. She’s doing her best to focus on the mantra and
meditating. But, too bad her imagination keep on betraying her. Like a labirin,
everytime she trying to focus, there’s like a constant questions ask her.
When Eliz is about to start meditate, she said
“Let’s draw our attention to our breath and focus on the mantra.”
Her mind answered, “I can help you out with this,
you know!”
Guys, you know this, we muslim, when we’re about to
focus during salaat, this dialog is like what happened to Eliz.
Eliz:”OK good, because I need your help. Let’s go.
Om Namah Shivaya. Om Namah Shi—“
Mind: I can help you think of nice meditative
images. Like—hey. Here’s a good one. Imagine you are a temple. A temple on an
island! And the island is in the ocean!”
Eliz: “Oh that is a nice image.”
Mind: “Thanks. I thought of it myself.”
Me: “But what ocean are we picturing here?
Mind: “The Mediterranean. Imagine you’re one of
those Greek islands, with an old Greek temple on it. No, never mind, that’s too
touristy. You know what? Forget the ocean. Oceans are too dangerous. Here’s a
better idea—imagine you’re an island in a lake, instead.”
Me: “Can we meditate now, please? Om Namah Shiv.”
Seriously, I can relate to this dialog so much.
During salaah this case is also happened to me.
This chapter, is show how it is so hard for Eliz to
focus on meditating.
Chapter 43

Eliz is trying her best to practice eat while some
big man is sitting in front of her and say, “Man, they got mosquitoes round
this place big enough to rape a chicken” And He is Richard from Texas has
arrived.
Chapter 44

talks about Richard a man from Texas. Richard is giving an interesting
impression to Eliz. Eliz is feel safe beside Richard in some way. Richard even
give Eliz an nickname. He called Eliz, groceries.
Richard told Eliz about how can he be end up in
Ashram. Richard know Ashram from his ex-girlfriend. After visit Ashram, Richard
will found himself constantly praying to God, for open his heart. Just like
what he wanted, after a few months of praying, Richard got his chest open, yes
literally. That’s why Richards give an advice for Eliz to be careful with what
she pray, cause she might get it one day.
Chapter 45
Eliz is trying to do meditating again but this time
she use a different style. She already prepare herself, speak to her mind, use
a different mantra.
Ham-sa which in
Sanskrit itmeans, “I am That.”
And there, Eliz is
finally focus and done her meditating greatly.
Chapter 46
This chapter, Eliz talk
about the yogic topic Kundalini Shakti which is a powerful experience, and
people need to be guided through it by a guru, who helps to release the initial
energy. This happened to for Eliz when she met her guru in person. During
meditation she had a powerful vision of Swamiji, who is her guru’s guru.
Chapter 47

spent in Ashram and do an intense meditation, Eliz has dreams two nights in a
row. She dreamt about a snake entering her room. She awakens in a panic, and
her mind goes to her failed relationship. Eliz try to think again if her
decision to break up with David is a good decision or not. She gets back to
sleep, but then she start to have another bad dream. She dreams about a dog
chasir after her and threatening to kill her. She goes into the bathroom to cry
on the floor so she doesn’t bother her roommate.
Chapter 48
After had a bad dream,
Eliz is try to avoid everyone at the Ashram. But Richard won’t allow it. He
pushes Eliz to tell him what is going on, and try to give her an advice. Richards
identifies David’s role to “shake you up, drive your out of that marriage tear
apart your ego show you your obstacles… and even break your heart open.”
Richard tells Eliz that
this is her time to move on from David.
Chapter 49
Eliz share her memory
of “a true metaphysical crisis” that she went through at age nine. Suddenly she
felt life “passing her by so fast” Eliz became scarily aware of her own
mortality. Which somehow makes her felt so helpless. How could she at age nine
thinks, how to force the entire universe to stop in its tracks?
Eliz is linking this
string of memories to the Ashram to a friend, Sean.
Chapter 50
Eliz continues to feel
agitates during the meditation, and she is now able to identify the source. Its
because she stills want David to love her.
Eliz tries another new
tactic during meditation to help her more focus on it. She starts by asking her
heart not to judge her for the shortcomings she experiences during meditation.
She asks her heart to take over her mind.
